On 12th April 2012 we held our annual open day at City University London. The event was a great success with just under 400 registered guests! We would like to thank all of those who attended and participated in HCID2012, you really helped make it such a great day.
We had a grand total of 22 talks and workshops running from 1pm-9pm at various different locations within the College building at City University London. This is the most that we have ever had, and we were pleased to offer so much variety to our attendees. As always, there was no predefined theme for the event so contributors were asked to bring their own talks and workshops to the event provided they related to
- User Experience
- Usability
- Creativity
- Web design
- Gamification
- Mobile
Who Presented?

Aside from our guest speakers, we also had members from our Centre for HCID presenting at the event. Talks ranged from ongoing PhD research to large scale research projects currently being undertaking with HCID.
Interaction Lab Tours
As part of the day, we were also showing off our Interaction Lab. Tours lasted from 20-30 minutes and helped attendees get an understanding of the ways in which our technologies are used for commercial and academic user research. Some of the items showcased included,
- Eye tracking
- Multi-touch surfaces
- Gestural Interaction
- Brain Interaction
- Accessibility Testing (including associated Assistive Technologies)
- Mobile Eye Tracking
- Collaborative Design Stations,
And more!
If you were unable to attend the lab tours and would like to know more about our commercial user research services, or would like to come and have a tour of our labs (and toys), please email interactionlab@soi.city.ac.uk, we look forward to hearing from you.
Kind Contributors
Following the success of HCID2012, some of those attending have documented their own experiences of the day,
- Francis Rowland has created some great sketches of some of sessions which he attended – they can be accessed on our Pinterest Page for hcid2012
- Kimberley Tew has written her reflections on Makayla Miranda Lewis’ talk on “Effects of changing your website on people with disabilities,” – this can be accessed on Kimberley’s Blog
